Software Development
Software development projects within the Novel Lab include:
- OpenSG nodes: nodes for efficient rendering suitable for distribution.
- Point of regard: an open source eyetracking suite.
Funded Projects
These developments have been funded by the following project:
- EPOCH: Network of Excellence joining academic, research and cultural institutions to improve the quality and effectiveness of the use of IT for Cultural Heritage. Partners endeavoured to overcome the fragmentation of current research in this field, which may undermine the effectiveness of clusters of research centres, such as those managing European-funded research; affect the “pipeline”, i.e. the production of valuable communication from scientific data; or limit the interdisciplinary dialogue among scientists with different background. EPOCH addressed such issues by aiming at durable integration, eliminating bottlenecks in the pipeline, and fostering interdisciplinary co-operation.

Initiatives
Other initiatives in which staff are involved:
- Bringing the past to life for the citizen: This is a UK Grand Challenge initiative, supported by the UK Computing Research Committee. It involves a multidisciplinary network of academics with the aim to develop technologies which will allow citizens to witness events of the past interactively.
